Snow fun!

I love snow!  We may get an inch or two a year, if we're lucky.  Generally it's an ice mixture that does nothing but create a mess.  In December (the weekend before Christmas) we were blessed to have 16" of this wonderful white stuff.  The snowstorm started on a Friday and ened either late Saturday or early Sunday...either way it was 2 fun days of sledding.  When we first heard about the storm, our first thoughts were having to get to his parents' house to take advantage of the awesome hill in their backyard...and boy are we glad we did.  John and I were like kids in a candy store.  We played for hours.  We may have had numb feet, hands, and faces, but we sure did have fun!

After we dug John's car out on Sunday, sadly we had to leave the snow behind head back to our place...where we had a funny sight.  My car was almost completely covered by the snow.  I walked by it at first wondering where it was! 

Lucky for us the snow was still around on Christmas Eve.  I brought my nephews to the in-laws' house and we all had a blast.

I can't believe that I haven't written a post in awhile...I better get better at this.  :-)

John and I celebrated our first Christmas together as a married couple this year.  We had a big snow storm the weekend before Christmas and that really hindered a lot of people from finishing up their last minute shopping (or in John's case...all of his shopping).  :-)   So after John had finished his shopping and had the gifts wrapped we opened them in front of the warm crackling fire. 

We are very forunate to be able to spend the holidays with our famlies.

Usually we spend Christmas Eve at John's parents' house.  We travel to their house around mid-day, spend the day chatting and hanging out, enjoy a lovely dinner and then open our presents.  This year, because of the snow (the next post), we spent the day sledding at John's parents' house sledding with my nephews.  We had a lot of fun.

Christmas morning we head over to my family's house for a morning breakfast and then to exchange presents.  We are big into playing card games and family time.  We went sledding again on Christmas Day.  We went to the local middle school by John's parents' house and had a blast.  Then we returned back to my Mom's house and played games.

Both of our families have traditions that we would like to incorporate when we have children:

1)  Christmas Eve Dinner (both families)

2)  Christmas Day breakfast--includes waffles and eggs stuff.  Basically eggs and white gravy over waffles. Don't knock it until you've tried it.  (My family)

3)  Money box for the children.  I didn't mind this new tradition.  :-)  (John's family)

4)  Open up one present on Christmas Eve.  (My family)

5)  Stockings (My Family)

Out with Thanksgiving, in with Christmas!

We make our Christmas Cookies every year like clockwork.  Christmas isn't complete without them.  We usually do them Thanksgiving weekend, since we are all together.  So here goes another year of fun and decorating!

My sister is in Florida this year, so the task was left up to my mom, other sister Cyndi, and yours truly...

The table went from a dining room table, to craft table (for the cards the night before), and finally the cookie decorating table. 

To everyone's surprise, my dad started decorating!  Of all the years of doing this (and we've done it as far back as I can remember) I have never seen him decorate a single cookie.  And he did a really good job too!

John and I finished the night hanging out with friends for game night.  What a great group of people!

Thanksgiving Fun

I know this is a little late--but my life has been consumed with The New Super Mario Bros for Wii.  :-)

First off, let me say that I love Thanksgiving!  It allows us to really think about what we are thankful for and allows us to celebrate together.  Above all the rest, I love spending time with my family.  We always get together at my mom's house and chip in to help with the cooking.  This year's Thanksgiving certainly didn't lack things to do. 

I'd be lying if I said the food wasn't important on Turkey Day.  I love the...

mashed potatoes, gravy, fruit salad, cranberry relish,squash, rolls, etc...

and of course the apple and pumpkin pie!  :-)

After dinner, we started to tackle making the handmade cards we are going to send to the Holiday Mail for Heroes (also from a previous post).  We had a lot of fun and tapped into our creative sides.  We made a total of 29 cards to mail.

And last but not least, even my in-laws got in on the action and did a pretty good job too!

To round out the day, we made our christmas cookie dough so it could sit overnight ready for us to cut, bake, and decorate the cookies the next day.  None of us can resist eating the raw cookie dough (yeah yeah it's bad for you, but that doesn't stop us)!  My little nephew, Jakob, was the lucky recipient of the bowl this year and he enjoyed every drop.
